Ladies Paddling Club guided by Vanessa at 9.45-11am every Friday in term-time.

Vanessa is a SUP instructor and keen kayaker. Choose between a kayak and SUP. This session is about enjoying a paddle whether you want to get fit or chill at the back of the pack!

Water Safety Course – Dates for 2023 tbc

Have you ever fallen in the water and be unable to get back onto your kayak, canoe or SUP? This 2 hour session will give you all the tools and tricks to enable you to help yourself and others. You’ll learn skills that could help save a life, especially important if you paddle with children. Be prepared to get very wet and have a real giggle!

Stage 1: paddle start award

2 Hours by booking

This is an introduction to paddling in kayaks, open canoes and SUP boards for 7-70 yr olds. Learning and improving basic technique moving forwards, backwards and turning. Developing moving sideways, steering and paddling in a straight line!  Experience your first session on the water; learning useful skills for an enjoyable paddling experience. It aims to provide you with the basic knowledge to enable you to safely get in and out of your boat, make it move and return to your start point. This is your first step into the world of paddling, ensuring you feel safe, confident and ready to progress to the Discover Award. All participants have the opportunity to gain a ‘Paddlepower Start’ Award certificate at the end of the session, subject to fulfilling the course requirements.

Stage 2: paddle discover award

4 x 2hr sessions (minimum)

Further developing correct technique in all aspects of paddling and boat handling as well as experiencing different types of boats/ craft & capsize and rescue drills.

The Discover Award allows you to develop your decision making and practical skills for a fun and safe time on the water, taking you on the next steps towards becoming a proficient and independent paddler. Learn how to choose and effectively use equipment, whilst developing an understanding of the factors which affect your paddling; giving you the confidence to progress to making your own choices with the Explore Award.

British Canoeing Awarding

Instruction is delivered by a qualified BCU/UKCC coach with over 20 years of experience in Australia, New Zealand, America and England. £40pp (£25pp if 2 or more – 8 maximum)

Cost for the course is £85pp (2-3 people), £75pp (4-6 people) or £70pp (7-8 people)

NOTE: Paddle Start Award must have been completed to join this class  Lunch available at Lime Wharf Cafe

Stage 3: paddle explore award

2hr sessions by booking. (Approximately 15 sessions to complete award)

Your Explore Award gives you ownership; allowing you to choose where you move next in the world of paddlesport. Working with a coach you will be able to develop a programme that suits what you need. Learning to make confident choices with this individualised approach. Recognising your ability to independently paddle your chosen craft in a sheltered water environment.

£40pp (£25pp if 2 or more – 8 maximum)

Guided kayaking tours

Our guided kayak tours are for those traditionalists that prefer sit-in type kayaks built for general purpose as well as river day touring. Tours will travel along the River Rother from Newenden to Iden, the last lock before Rye’s tidal waters.

The journey takes approximately 3-4 hours, stopping along the way to take in all the beauty of the Rother and surrounding countryside. The tour starts at 9am after an initial safety brief and at the other end, participants will be transferred, by road, back to Newenden for a light lunch at 1pm (food and beverages not included in the price)t.

Participants need to be 14 yrs of age and above and under 18’s must be accompanied by an adult. There is a minimum of 4 participants to run the tour and a maximum of 8.

Option 1: Bodiam Castle to Newenden OR Newenden to Bodiam £45pp (4+ people; £30 each)
Option 2: Bodiam Castle to Newenden. lunch at Lime Wharf Cafe (extra cost) and back again £80pp (4+ people; £60 each)
